Change All Products to Physical Product Shopify Safe Methods
Change All Products to Physical Product Shopify Safe Methods
If your customers aren’t seeing shipping charges during checkout, your products might be marked as digital instead of physical in Shopify. Shopify automatically skips the shipping step for digital items because it assumes there’s nothing to ship!
This can cause problems if you're actually selling physical products and expecting shipping fees to show up.
The good news? It's easy to fix. In this guide, we’ll show you three simple ways to update your products so Shopify treats them as physical items. No matter how many products you have, there's a method here that’s quick and easy to follow.
Methods to change All products to Physical
There are 3 ways to do that.
- Manually Change to Physical products
- Bulk Editor in Shopify
- Use Product CSV file for large Catalog.
Method 1: Manually Change to Physical products
It is a safe method of doing that but a slow process if your store has a large number of products then it takes more time to set that up. In this method you simply go to the each product manually and make the physical product checkbox checked one by one. It is the safest way but slow one if you have large catalog. Follow these steps to manually update products one by one.
Step 1: Navigate to Shopify Admin > Products
Step 2: Go to the product you want to update and click on it.
Step 3: Scroll down to the Shipping area and mark this product as Physical if not already checked.
Step 4: Click Save.
Step 5: if you have variant options available like color, size etc for some products then navigate to the variant part and click on the option and open it.
Step 6: Check this box for each variant.
Note: Repeat this process for all the products in your Shopify store.
Method 2: Bulk Editor in Shopify
Shopify provides a bulk editor to edit multiple products at the same time using the spreadsheet kind of layout. In this method you can open multiple product in the bulk editor and make changes to the all product at the same time with less effort. This technique is very helpful for large number of products for example if you have thousands of products then manually updating the products can be quite time consuming instead use the bulk editor.
Step 1: Navigate to the Online store > Products
Step 2: Select all the products and click Bulk edit.
Step 3: Click on this Columns button.
Step 4: Add field Columns > Add fields > Shipping > Physical Product
Step 5: Check these boxes.
Step 6: Click Save.

Method 3: Use Product CSV file for large Catalog.
If your store has hundreds or thousands of products then product CSV could be very helpful to update bulk data for different product attributes. In this method what you do is export your product in a CSV file and open the CSV file in your local machine or google spreadsheet editor and look for the desired attribute for example Variant Requires Shipping column and set all the values to true. Follow this step by step guide to update the product using CSV file.
Step 1: Navigate to the Online store > Products
Step 2: Export the products
Step 3: Choose all products or selected products and click on the Export Products button.
