There are four types of Shopify discounts.

Each one of the discount types has further two kinds of discounts.

1. Discount Code
2. Automatic Discount

Discount Code 

• Customers can enter discount codes on cart pages or checkouts like Summer10, Free20 etc.
• Easy to share these via emails, ads or popups to increase conversions
• Can be in the percentage or fixed amount 

Automatic Discount

• These discounts applied automatically without any code in checkout.

Methods for Discount code creation in Shopify

There are 2 methods for creating discount codes in Shopify.

1. Add Native Shopify Discount.
2. Install Shopify Apps to create discount code.

How to Create a discount in Shopify(Native)

Shopify has built-in feature to add discounts in the form of code or automatic discount. Discounts in Shopify proves very helpful to increase conversions and customer trust. You can create discount based on the products, collection or even the whole store. Follow these steps to create a discount in Shopify Discounts.

Discount Code

Discount code is a code like Summer50 which you can send to the user via emial, social media promotions or promotional banners in Shopify so that user can use these discount code to get the discounted price. Follow these steps to 

Step 1: Navigate to Shopify Admin > Discounts

Step 2: Click Add Discount Button at the top

Step 3: choose the type of discount you want to add in your store 

Step 4: To add discount code select the discount code box and add the code or generate the random Number as you see fit.

Step 5: select the discount value in percentage or fixed amount and set the value according to it 

Step 6: Discount can be applied to specific collections or products based on the requirements 

Step 7: Select the purchase type here either One-time or Subscription or both

Step 8: After selecting collection or products click Browse to select Collections or Products respectively to apply discounts.

Step 9: You can also set the conditions like eligibility or minimum purchase requirement to apply discount from here as well 

Step 10: Limit the discount code usage 

Step 11: Combine discount with the other discount and set the discount active dates. If you don’t specify an end date then it will last forever. Combination of discount sometimes leads to very large discount make sure to use appropriately.

Step 12: Make sure to hit save after all the changes either on top or bottom of the page

Automatic Discount

Automatic discount is the discount that applies automatically without needing to add code if certain condition satisfied like percentage discount , fixed amount discount etc. Follow these steps to add automatic discount in Shopify using native method.

Step 1: Navigate to Shopify Admin > Discounts

Step 2: Click Add Discount Button at the top

Step 3: Choose the type of discount you want to add in your store 

Step 4: To add automatic discount select Automatic Discount tab and set the title suitable for it.

Step 5: Set the condition for minimum quantity or minimum purchase amount depend on the requirements.

Step 6: Discount can be applied to specific collections or products based on the requirements 

Step 7: Select the purchase type here either One-time or Subscription or both

Step 8: After selecting collection or products click Browse to select Collections or Products respectively to apply discounts.

Step 9: Select the product from the product list or collection which the customer will get after the condition fulfills.

Step 10:  Set the discount value like percentage, fixed amount or Free one.

Step 11: Set the usage value per order for example 1

Step 12: Combine discount with the other discount and set the discount active dates. If you don’t specify an end date then it will last forever. Combination of discount sometimes leads to very large discounts make sure to use appropriately.

Step 13: Make sure to hit save after all the changes either on top or bottom of the page

Use Shopify Apps to Create discount code

Shopify apps give advanced options to create discount code. For example automatic discount based on the cart rule, tiered pricing, one time purchase discount, subscription discounts etc. Follow these steps to add a Shopify schema using Shopify Apps.

Step 1: Navigate to Shopify Admin > Apps

Step 2: Click on the all recommended apps button.

Step 3: Click on the Shopify app store link.

Step 4: Search for the app you want to install for example Bulk Discount Code Bot

Step 5: Click on the install button.

Step 6: Again click on Install button.

Step 7: Select the industry and click on Finish.

Step 8: click on create discount set button.

Step 9: Set up your discount code by following the steps based on the app installed.

Step 10: Navigate to Discounts and see the discount created successfully in the Shopify Admin.
